  • To weigh sth up: Cân nhắc kĩ lưỡng các mặt lợi – hại của vấn đề trước khi đưa ra quyết định.

  • To think sth out: Cân nhắc các khả năng và lên kế hoạch.

  • To thing sth through: Cân nhắc kĩ càng các hệ quả có thể dẫn đến của một hành động.

      • Because they realize that there is no perfect answer to a problem, it isn’t easy to think something through. Even the most decisive and straightforward person would wonder if the decision he made was the right one. Or it could be because they have made some unwise decisions before, so they tend to be more careful about what they should do.

Up to a point, they’re going to form their own opinions, which might be different from what their parents think.   • Weigh something ↔ up 
    • IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: 
      • I'm weighing up my options before I decide to apply for the job. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Tôi đang cân nhắc các lựa chọn của mình trước khi quyết định nộp đơn xin việc). 
      • Certainly after a group discussion. Talking to more people helps you to look at the problem from different perspectives, which certainly helps you to understand the situation more thoroughly. It is even more helpful if you could consult with an expert in order to make an informed decision and to benefit from their experience. On the other hand, it’s challenging to weigh up all the pros and cons by yourself; it is very likely that you’re going to miss something. 
  • Strong-minded: có đầu óc mạnh mẽ
  • Overconfident: quá tự tin
  • To rush into sth. (phrasal verb không tách rời): Vội vàng đưa ra quyết định mà không suy xét liệu đó có phải quyết định hợp lý nhất không. 
    • IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: When joining the stock market, it is best not to rush into any buying or selling decisions. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Khi tham gia vào thị trường chứng khoán, tốt nhất là bạn không nên vội vàng đưa ra các quyết định mua bán.) 
  • To take on sth. (phrasal verb không tách rời): Quyết định làm hoặc đồng ý chịu trách nhiệm về một hành động cụ thể. 
    • IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: It was courageous of him to take on leading the whole team for this new project. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Anh ấy thật can đảm khi đảm nhận nhiệm vụ dẫn dắt cả nhóm trong dự án mới này). 
  • To go for sth (phrasal verb không tách rời): lựa chọn thực hiện một trong số các hành động.

  • To chicken out. (phrasal verb không tách rời): Quyết định không làm một việc vì quá sợ hãi hoặc e ngại.

  • mutually agreeable solution: giải pháp được đồng thuận
  • Guidance: hướng dẫn
  • Think ahead (to something) 
    • IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: 
      • The new year is a natural time to think ahead and make plans for the future. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Năm mới là thời điểm tự nhiên để suy nghĩ trước và lập kế hoạch cho tương lai). 
      • People have to make a wide range of decisions in their everyday lives, from deciding what to eat to choosing what to wear to school or work. You also have to decide what your schedule is going to look like, what you’re gonna do in the morning or in the afternoon.
