1. Facilitate: làm cái gì trở nên dễ hơn

Ví dụ:

  • The new ramp will facilitate the entry of wheelchairs. 
  • The current structure does not facilitate efficient work flow.
  • To facilitate learning, each class is no larger than 30 students.

2. Instruct to do sth: hướng dẫn (formal way)

Ví dụ:

  • The police have been instructed to patrol the building and surrounding area.
  • The prime minister's family have been instructed not to discuss his past life with the press. 
  • The minister was instructed to accept the advice of senior civil servants. 
  • Tourists are instructed not to travel to the region unless absolutely necessary. 
  • The government instructed MPs to vote in favour of the bill. 
  • He was instructed to report back to headquarters.

3. Guide sb (through sth): hướng dẫn ai

Là ngoại động từ

Ví dụ:

  • The government is planning to launch a benchmarking scheme to guide consumers. 
  • Parents have the right to expect information to guide them through a growing, yet unregulated market. 
  • The instructions will guide you through the process of assembling the equipment. 
  • The glossary is useful for guiding you through some of the technical terms that are used in the book. 
  • The help file will guide you through the installation process.

Có thể đa dạng bằng cách dùng qua danh từ:

  • provide guidance on sth

Ví dụ:

  • Our instructors can provide guidance on how to use the equipment. 
  • The booklet offers practical guidance on how to set up a business. 
  • Under his teacher's guidance, she has developed into an accomplished pianist. 
  • The role of the supervisor is to provide guidance to the student. 
  • She frequently sought guidance from her parents.

4. Support sb (to do sth)

Ví dụ:

  • My father supported the LabourDemocratic Party all his life. 
  • The majority of people in the town strongly support the plans to build a new school. 
  • I think it's important to support local businesses by buying locally. 
  • We will always do our best to support our students to succeed.

5. Assist

Ví dụ:

  • Migrating birds make use of airstreams to assist them on their long journey south. 
  • Yasmin assisted in the preparation of this article. 
  • Emergency crews, assisted by the army, are searching for survivors. 
  • The doctor performed a small operation to assist the patient's breathing. 
  • The photographers could face charges of manslaughter and failure to assist the victims of the crash.

6. Give/lend sb a helping hand (idiom)

Ví dụ:

The Federal Reserve is expected to lend a hand by continuing to cut interest rates forcefully.

7. Aid

Là ngoại động từ

Ví dụ:

  • Huge projects designed to aid poorer countries can sometimes do more harm than good. 
  • His excuse for drinking brandy is that it's said to aid digestion.

  •  He gets around with the aid of a cane.
  • She went to the aid of a man trapped in his car. 
  • A good dictionary can be a useful aid to understanding a new language.

8. Benefit: động từ

  • Vừa là ngoại động từ vừa là nội động từ 
  • Mang 2 nghĩa (to be helped by something or to help someone:) 
  • Nếu là ngoại động từ thì mang nghĩa to help someone (giúp đỡ ai đó)
  • Nếu là nội động từ thì mang nghĩa to be helped by something (được giúp bởi cái gì đó) --> thường dùng với cấu trúc: benefit from sth 

Ví dụ:

  • Là nội động từ
    • I feel that I have benefited greatly from her wisdom. 
    • There are wide variations in the way pensioners have benefited from the system. 
    • Everyone benefited from the share-out of the profits. The new law will benefit many homeowners. 
  • Là ngoại động từ
    • They argued that the tax will mainly benefit the rich.
    • How can we benefit those who most need our help?

9. Turn to sb/sth (for sth): phrasal verb: nhờ cậy đến....

Ví dụ:

  • Without someone to turn to for advice, making the most appropriate choice can be difficult. 
  • Her family lived a long way away, and she had no one to turn to.
  • I have always been able to turn to my parents when I've had a problem. 
  • He felt he had no-one to turn to. 
  • He turned to his friend for financial support.

10. seek (somebody’s) advice/help/assistance
