Do the positive effects outweigh the negative effects, when advertising gains popularity?
In this day and age, more and more contemporary attention has been placed on the opinion that the promotion of products and services is becoming increasingly popular. In my opinion, this trend could have both positive and negative consequences in equal measures.
On the one hand, the widespread appeal of marketing efforts is advantageous in some aspects. To be more specific, it is undeniable that advertisements facilitate customers’ access to new products, which provides them with an extensive diversity of choices. In other words, people from any classes of society can approach goods which meet their demands but still suit their own budget. In addition, product promotions make a substantial contribution to boosting sales, and therefore bringing huge profits for manufacturers. For example, thanks to the advent of commercials on mass media such as TV during prime time, a new shampoo product manufactured by Unilever became so widely known that it was sold out in just a short time.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR
On the other hand, I would argue that the disadvantages of marketing campaigns are worth mentioning. The first shortcoming is that organisations have to spend a huge amount of money on these efforts. This leads to increasing the real price of the products and services, and customers are those who pay for this extra cost. Another negative is that consumers, particularly youngsters, are easily susceptible to the effects of promotions, as one of the initial purposes of product endorsements is to give products an exaggerated account. In other words, marketers tend to stress attributes of products that are likely to draw customers’ attention while downplaying potential side effects. As a consequence, consumers are easily misled into making impulsive purchases when buying unnecessary things.
In conclusion, due to numerous aforementioned reasons, this trend has posed both beneficial and detrimental influences on individuals as well as the whole economy.
