II. Cách dùng động từ"say"
1. "say" vừa là nội động từ, vừa là ngoại động từ

2. Cách dùng
2.1. Mang nghĩa"nói"
=to express something using words
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Với nghĩa này, say vừa là nội động từ, vừa là ngoại động từ
- say (that)
- say how/what/who etc
- say something to someone
- say hello/goodbye etc (to someone)
- say sorry (to someone for something)
- say yes/no (to someone/something) (=give/refuse permission)
- a horrible/stupid/strange etc thing to say
- say something on/about

- ‘Pleased to meet you,’ he said with a smile.
- ‘When’s he coming back?’ ‘He didn’t say.’
- She said that she liked dancing. �
- Did he say who called?
- Tell me what he said to you.

2.2. Mang nghĩa"nghĩ rằng, thể hiện quan điểm"

- Với nghĩa này, say là ngoại động từ
- say (that)
- I say we go (=I think we should go) by car
- would say so/not (=think it is likely/unlikely)
2.2.1. Mang nghĩa"nghĩ rằng"
=to think something, or to have a particular opinion I think we should stop now.

2.2.2. Mang nghĩa"tự nhủ với chính mình"
=If you say something to yourself, you think it.

- 'Keep your temper,' he said to himself.
2.3. Mang nghĩa"tuyên bố"
=to mean something by a statement

- say (that)

2.4. Mang nghĩa"diễn đạt rằng/thể hiện rằng"
=You can mention the contents of a piece of writing by mentioning what it says or what someone says in it/If something says something about a person, situation, or thing, it gives important information about them/to give information or orders in writing, numbers, pictures etc

- The report says there is widespread and routine torture of political prisoners in the country.

- You indicate the information given by something such as a clock, dial, or map by mentioning what it says.
- The clock said four minutes past eleven.

2.5. Mang nghĩa"tưởng tượng xem, thử nghĩ rằng"
=You can use say when you want to discuss something that might possibly happen or be true/to imagine what will happen in a particular situation

2.6. Mang nghĩa"lấy, chọn (làm ví dụ)"
=You can use say or let's say when you mention something as an example/to use something as a possible example

=to tell someone to do something

2.8. Mang nghĩa"đồn, là ý kiến của nhiều người"
=If something says a lot for a person or thing, it shows that this person or thing is very good or has a lot of good qualities/if people say something or if something is said, it is the opinion of a lot of people they/people

2.9. Mang nghĩa"có nghĩa lí gì với ai"
=to have a particular meaning for someone
