1. Can afford sth
=if you can afford something, you have enough money to be able to pay for it. This word usually follows ‘can’, ‘could’, or ‘be able to’
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Can afford to do sth = đủ khả năng chi trả
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- I can't afford a new computer.
- [ + to do sth ] Can we afford to go away?
- I'd love to come out but I can't afford the time.
- She can't afford a motorbike. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Cô ấy không có khả năng mua 1 chiếc xe máy)
- They couldn't afford the rent.
- I can't afford to buy a bike, never mind a car!
- We couldn't afford to pay the lawyer's fee.
- Very few people can afford to pay those prices.
- I don't need a car and I can't afford one anyway.
2. Affordable (adj)
=cheap enough for ordinary people to afford
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- affordable housing/prices
- Tính từ affordable luôn đứng trước một danh từ
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- affordable childcare
- concert seats at affordable prices
- Find an affordable luxury cruise deal now. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Hãy tìm một hợp đồng du lịch cao cấp giá cả phải chăng ngay bây giờ)
- ...the availability of affordable housing.
