II. Cách dùng
1. Dùng dare như ngoại động từ
Mang nghĩa "thách thức"
=to try to persuade someone to prove that they are not afraid to do something that is dangerous or likely to cause trouble

- Không chia bị động
- dare someone to do something

- Someone dared him to climb the tree.
- I dare you: Go on, phone the police.
- I dare you.
- The older boys dared Jennings to go up on the roof.
- he dared his boss' coarseness when he gave in his resignation (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: nó dám đương đầu với cái thói thô lỗ của ông chủ nó khi nó nộp đơn xin thôi việc)
2. Dùng dare như nội động từ
1. Mang nghĩa "dám"
=if you dare to do something, you are not afraid to do it, even though it may be dangerous or shocking or may cause trouble for you

- I drove as fast as I dared.
- Andrei Sakharov was one of the few people who dared to protest.
- Neither of the superpowers would have dared use nuclear weapons.
- I daren’t risk offending Audrey’s parents.
- I hardly dare to go into the room without first getting permission.
- I have never dared go there (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi chưa bao giờ dám đến đó)
- I don't know how she dares sleep in the open air (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi chẳng hiểu sao cô ta dám ngủ ngoài trời)
- how did he dare to be so cheeky ? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: sao hắn dám hỗn láo như vậy?)
- He didn't dare (to) say anything = He dared not say anything.
2. Diễn tả sự tức giận với cấu trúc"How dared/dared +S+V"
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- How dared you steal my laptop!
3. "I dare say/I daresay" diễn tả một sự khẳng định hay một sự thừa nhận.
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- I dare say there will be a restaurant at the end of the train.
- I dare say you are right.
3. Dùng dare như động từ khuyết thiếu
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
DÙNG TRONG CÁC CÂU PHỦ ĐỊNH HOẶC NGHI VẤN, SAU IF / WHETHER HOẶC VỚI HARDLY / NEVER / NOBODY

- No one dared speak.
- Fight with him if you dare.
- Dare he tell her the truth?
- He dare not/daren’t lie.
- I daren't ask her for a rise (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi không dám xin bà ấy tăng tiền lương)
- daren't you talk with them ? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: anh không dám nói chuyện với họ sao?)
- I wonder whether he dare tell the whole truth (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: tôi chẳng biết nó dám nói hết sự thật hay không)
- if you ever dare call me that name again , you'll be sorry (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: mày sẽ phải hối tiếc nếu dám gọi tao tao bằng cái tên ấy một lần nữa)
