I. Dùng "regret" như noun
Mang nghĩa"hối tiếc"
=a sad feeling because of something that has happened or something that you have done or not done

- I have no regrets about leaving Newcastle (= I do not feel sorry about it).
- He confessed to a few regrets about his time in Parliament.
- There has still been no official expression of regret for their deaths.
- He said he felt deep regret for having been part of a government that had brutally violated human rights.
- He gave up teaching in 2009, much to the regret of his students.

2. Mang nghĩa"lấy làm tiếc (cách nói xã giao)"
=You can say that you regret something as a polite way of saying that you are sorry about it. You use expressions such as I regret to say or I regret to inform you to show that you are sorry about something.

- I regret that the United States has added its voice to such protests.
- Her lack of co-operation is nothing new, I regret to say.
