I. Dùng "near" như adj
1. Mang nghĩa"gần"

=a short distance away

- Wales may be a near neighbour but its history is quite distinct.

=a short time away in the future

3. Mang nghĩa"đối thủ"

II. Dùng "near" như adv
1. Mang nghĩa"gần (về không gian)
=at a short distance away

2. Mang nghĩa"gần (về thời gian)
=a short time away in the future

=almost a near-perfect performance

III. Dùng "near" như verb
Mang nghĩa"đến gần (cái gì) về không gian hoặc thời gian; xích lại gần"
=to come close to something in time or space

IV. Dùng "near" như giới từ
1. Mang nghĩa"gần về mặt không gian"
=at a short distance away from somebody/something

- Go and sit nearer (to) the fire.
2. Mang nghĩa"gần về mặt thời gian"
=a short period of time from something

3. Mang nghĩa"gần, xấp xỉ (số liệu)"
=used before a number to mean ‘approximately’, ‘just below or above’

- Profits fell from $11 million to nearer $8 million.
4. Mang nghĩa"tương tự"

- similar to somebody/something in quality, size, etc.

- He's nearer 70 than 60.
- This colour is nearest (to) the original.
5. Mang nghĩa"suýt nữa thì"
=near (doing) something
