II. Cách dùng
1. Mang nghĩa "đợt rét, đợt lạnh, một đợt thời tiết, đợt thời gian xảy ra hành động gì"
=a period when there is a particular type of weather / a period of time, usually a short one

- a brief/short spell
- a hot/cold/wet/dry spell
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Severe cold spells may occur around mid-December while in previous years, they appeared in the last days of December.
- There has been a long spell of dry weather.
- You join a barrister for two six-month spells of practical experience.
- ...sunny spells.
- a two-week spell in hospital
- After a short spell in the army, I went to college.
- A prolonged wet spell causes trouble for fruit farmers.
2. Mang nghĩa "đợt ốm"
=a time when you suddenly feel ill

3. Mang nghĩa "say mê, bị bỏ bùa mê"
=A spell is a situation in which events are controlled by a magical power.

- ...the kiss that will break the spell.
4. Mang nghĩa "sự thu hút, sự làm say mê; ảnh hưởng mạnh"
=a powerful influence on someone, usually an influence that makes them admire or obey another person

- fall/be under someone’s spell
- cast a spell on someone: làm say mê

- He was not the first man to fall under her spell.
- The beautiful island seemed to have cast a spell on him.
