1. Mang nghĩa "cách thức"
=the way in which something is done
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Với nghĩa này, manner luôn ở số ít
- manner of
- in a/the...manner
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- The manner of his death aroused a lot of interest in the media.
- Customers should be treated in a courteous, friendly manner.
- Things had been done in the same manner for centuries.
- in this manner (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: theo cách này)
2. Mang nghĩa "dáng, vẻ, bộ dạng, thái độ, cử chỉ, tính cách"
=the usual way in which you behave towards other people, or the way you behave on a particular occasion / a way of behaving or speaking

- Với nghĩa này, manner luôn ở số ít
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- The salesman’s aggressive manner put us off.
- there is no trace of awkwardness in his manner (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: không có một chút gì là vụng về trong thái độ của anh ta)
3. Mang nghĩa "cách xử sự chuẩn mực, gia giáo"
=polite ways of treating other people and behaving in public:

- Với nghĩa này, manner luôn ở số nhiều
- good/bad manners
- have no manners (=behave badly)

- Children learn manners by observing their parents.
- It’s bad manners to interrupt someone.
- I forgot to say goodbye. They’ll think I have no manners at all.
