I. Dùng "average" như danh từ
1. Mang nghĩa "kết quả của việc cộng các số lượng với nhau rồi chia tổng số cho số các số lượng; số trung bình"
=the result you get by adding two or more amounts together and dividing the total by the number of amounts

- the average of 4, 5 and 9 is 6 (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: số trung bình của 4, 5 và 9 là 6)
- to take (strike ) an average (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: lấy số trung bình)
- The average of the three numbers 7, 12, and 20 is 13 because the total of 7, 12, and 20 is 39, and 39 divided by 3 is 13.
- Prices have risen by an average of four percent over the past year.
- My income's rather variable, but I earn £175 a day on average.
2. Mang nghĩa "mức trung bình, chuẩn mực hoặc mức được coi như là thông thường"
=a standard or level that is considered to be typical or usual

II. Dùng "average" như động từ
Mang nghĩa "làm hoặc đạt tới cái gì coi như số đo hoặc mức trung bình"
=to reach a particular amount as an average

- Many doctors average (= work an average of) 70 hours a week.
- Trainee accountants average (= earn an average of) £32,000 per year.
III. Dùng "average" như tính từ

2. Mang nghĩa "theo chuẩn mực bình thường hoặc thông thường; mức trung bình"
=typical and usual
